Fasting, HonestlyStarving After Breakfast

The Self-Experiment Log

You don't have to believe me. Run it yourself. This is the printable version of the log in Starving After Breakfast — three weeks, four columns, no equipment.

Before you start: if the safety notice at the front of the book applies to you, don't. This is not a test worth taking. It isn't a study — no control group, no blinding, and it proves nothing about anyone else. The only verdict it settles is your own.

Phase 1 — Two weeks, no breakfast

Eat nothing between waking and roughly noon (water, black coffee, plain tea are fine). Eat normally the rest of the day — normally, not less. Each morning at the same hour, rate your hunger 0–10 and write one word for how you feel.

Watch for: the number falling, the waves getting shorter, the day you forget to check.

Phase 2 — Four days, breakfast again

Now eat breakfast — the same breakfast, four days running (days 15–18). Rate morning hunger at the same hour before you eat, then add a second rating two hours after breakfast, and note the time hunger actually arrived.

Watch for three things: does morning hunger come back, and how fast? Does it arrive earlier each day? Are you hungrier two hours after eating than you were on the fasted mornings? If yes to the third, you've replicated, on yourself, the observation the whole book was written to explain.

You are allowed to eat breakfast. The point was never the skipping — it was noticing that the signal you'd spent your life obeying was, at least in part, a schedule you set. What you do with that is yours.
